From the classrooms of a Conservatory to winning a dozen awards and becoming a resident ensemble at Spain’s largest classical music institution, all in less than four years. This is the unique story of L’Apothéose, the Spanish ensemble that has become the new benchmark for historical interpretation on the European music scene.
With their expert mastery and enthusiasm, L’Apothéose adds a personal touch to each piece of music they work on, focusing on maximizing the rhetorical and emotional content of each work. Thanks to these carefully crafted interpretations, L’Apothéose has been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, winning awards in every competition they have entered. L’Apothéose’s accolades include First Prize, the EUBO Development Trust Award, and the Friends of York Early Music Festival Award at the 2019 York Early Music International Young Artists Competition (UK); Second Prize at the prestigious Internationaal Van Wassenaer Competition 2018 within the Oude Muziek festival in Utrecht (Netherlands); First Prize at the Göttingen Händel Competition 2017 (Germany); and Second Prize at the Concours International de Musique Ancienne de Val de Loire 2017 (France), chaired by William Christie.
Faithful to the values of quality and authenticity, the four members of L’Apothéose focus their work on the recovery of the historical Spanish repertoire, as well as on the exploration of a new discourse in the works of renowned international composers, with special attention to German composers such as Handel, Telemann, and J.S. Bach. L’Apothéose offers a new conception of Baroque music, with passionate and colorful performances that have captivated the most demanding audiences on respected stages in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Colombia. Among others, the ensemble has been invited to prestigious international festivals such as the Oude Muziek in Utrecht (Netherlands), the Festival d’Ambronay (France), the Internationale Händel Festspiele Göttingen (Germany), the York Early Music Festival and the London Festival of Baroque Music (United Kingdom), and national festivals such as the Santander International Festival, the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, the Sacred Art Festival of the Community of Madrid, the Torroella de Montgrí Festival, the Úbeda and Baeza Early Music Festival and the Seville Early Music Festival, among others. In the 2019/20 season, L’Apothéose was named resident group of the National Center for Musical Diffusion (CNDM), thus consolidating its position as one of the most renowned ensembles on the Spanish music scene.
His recordings, Tesoros Musicales de la Biblioteca Nacional de España (2018-DM&DM) and Händel Tribute (2019-IBS Classical), have been widely acclaimed by critics, always receiving top scores. His Händel Tribute album was selected as a recommended album of the year 2019 by Scherzo magazine and has even been praised in the US, in the specialist magazine of the South California Early Music Society.
The ensemble’s name was inspired by the title of François Couperin’s work “L’Apothéose de Corelli,” a piece that constituted the group members’ first musical project and the starting point of a fruitful musical career.
